Empty homes in the Borough can lead to issues relating to anti-social behaviour, are unattractive and a waste of potential housing which could be better utilised.
As a result of these issues the Council will identify empty properties in the Borough. The Council can levy an ‘empty homes premium’ where properties have been unoccupied and substantially unfurnished for over two years, which is 150% of the Council Tax normally applicable to the property.
We will be looking at any properties that have been empty over 6 months and try to engage with owners at an early stage.
How to report an empty home

If you have any problems being caused by empty property in your area please let us know the following information:
- Your name and address
- Your contact details - phone, mobile, email etc.
- Address and location of the property
- Any problems being caused, e.g. damage to the property or surrounding houses, anti-social behaviour, vandalism, overgrown gardens etc.
