Brentwood Borough Council operates a Countryside Management Service. This Service is responsible for managing the Council's 26 countryside sites totalling 635 acres, including areas of common land, Sites of Special Scientific Interest, Local Nature Reserves and Local Wildlife Sites. These countryside sites are managed for both nature conservation as well as to provide informal recreational opportunities for members of the public.
The Service also, as agents to Essex County Council who are the Highways Authority, undertakes day to day surveying and maintenance of the Borough's 243km of public rights of way.
To assist in the practical management of these sites and public rights of way, the Service also runs the Brentwood Countryside Management Volunteers.
Details of all countryside sites managed by Brentwood Borough Council can be found on the Parks and Open Spaces web page.
