Kerbs around the High Street have been dropped in many places and at road junctions to allow safe and easy access right across the town.
Larger shops in the High Street have automatic opening doors and entrances at the same level as the pavement.
Shopmobility
Our Shopmobility Scheme is located and ran from the Coptfold Road Multi-Storey Car Park on Level 3.
We have 8 Electric Mobility Scooters and 1 Manual wheelchair. Please see the weight restrictions below:
- 4 x four-wheeler – Max weight capacity 300lb / 21 Stone (Scooter Numbers 1, 2 , 3 & 4)
- 2 x four-wheeler – Max weight capacity 350lb / 25 Stone (Scooter Numbers 5 & 6)
- 2 x three-wheeler – Max weight capacity 300lb / 21 Stone (Scooter Numbers 7 & 8)
- 1 x manual wheelchair – Max weight capacity 225lb / 16 Stone
Our Shopmobility scheme is free to sign up to and is available to people with either disabilities and/or mobility issues. A Blue Badge is not required to sign up to the scheme.
Please note:
- You will be required to bring in 2 forms of ID with you for your initial Shopmobility Session.
- You will need to pass a simple test to show that you are able to use the equipment safely and correctly.
- You must book a scooter at least one day in advance and scooters are assigned on a first come first serve basis.

- Our Shopmobility Scooters can be booked out for a maximum of 4 hours.
- Shopmobility Scooters may be returned at a later time if the user is able to park the scooter in one of our secure cages & at a time agreed when collecting the scooter.
- Please Note: Shopmobility is not open on Public Holidays.
- Parking is free for Shopmobility Members when they are using the service.
To book a Shopmobility Slot please call 01277 312546 where a member of staff will be able to assist you in booking your slot for you.
Once signed up to Shopmobility; members are also eligible to use Parkmobility.

Parkmobility is located in:
Weald Country Park Open every day year round (except Christmas Day and New Years Day) and we have three 4 wheel drive mobility scooters. Call (01277) 261343 to book.
Thorndon Country Park where there is 1 four-wheeled electric scooter available. Call (01277) 211250 to book
It is advisable to pre book the Parkmobility scooters at Weald and Thorndon Country Park. The Rangers at the parks are very helpful.
