Pre-licensing conditions
The Council requires that vehicles meet the Council’s Pre-Licence Conditions before it can be licensed as a Hackney Carriage or Private Hire Vehicle:
Once licensed, Hackney Carriages must operate under the Council’s Hackney Carriage Licence conditions and Byelaws:
Private Hire Vehicles must operate under the Council’s Private Hire Vehicle Licence conditions:
They must be operated by a Licensed Operator.

Please note: It is an applicants responsibility to ensure that they meet all licence and pre-licence criteria prior to making any purchase of a vehicle. The Council can accept no responsibility should any vehicle submitted for licensing fail to meet these criteria. Therefore should there be any doubt please contact the licensing team.
Applicants for vehicle and operator licences must have held a Private Hire/Hackney Carriage Vehicle Driver’s Licence within the Borough for not less than TWO years immediately preceding the first application.

If your vehicle is due for a Vehicle Inspection or Inspection Retest, this must be booked and paid for at Nicks Tyres. Please call Nicks Tyres on 01277 372779 and selecting option 2 to make your appointment.
